To answer your second question, no you can't do that. Then the enabling code is entered on the idrive the same as Prof. Business Maps are loaded either through programming at the dealer or through the g/box USB with a USB sticks which are purchased with the map already on them. To your first question, yes that is correct.
Hdd map install#
Is the USB method exactly the same as the DVD pgrade method, but instead of having DVD disks to insert - BMW supply the files on a USB stick/drive?ĭo you know if you can get the DVD disks and rip the files to a USB stick - is it possible to then install and upgrade the Bus Nav System? I would say there are more benefits to updating than just full postcode, including more buildings on the 3D view being available and obviously any changes/improvements to our ever changing road network and of course speed limits !! Then under city enter the start of the postcode, the first 4 will get you near your destination then manually narrow it down. Make sure you have Great Britain selected (not Europe) as country. (If I'm reading what you have said correctly). However, you can still get the first 4 digits of the postcode. It's sounds as if you've just missed out and have version 2010-1 (push idrive controller in nav screen to the right and scroll down to see version). Looks like I just missed out?Īpart from the Postcode update anything else improved? You have to add the address by street name and area. I upgraded my Sat Nav HD to 2010 Europe Premum last May, however it does not have the ability to add a postcodes which I thought was the basic imput format. In addition to this if you want full 7 digit postcode search then your vehicle would need to be programmed to version 2.39 (currently 2.40) or later and have 2010-2 or 2011 nav data. Vehicles with Business 606 HDD is a similar method but the update is done by programming at dealer or through USB in glovebox. This is of course assuming you have professional 609. If you wanted to install yourself you would need the enabling code and a copy of that particular Nav version ie 2011.
Hdd map activation code#
So if you went your dealer for them to do you would just have to pay for the activation code (around £170 ish)and some install time (Chris obviously got lucky with his dealer).

You can use anybodys discs (as long as they are HDD Nav discs), the secret is in what BMW call enabling codes. I'm used to paying £30 over t'internet for an up to date disc for the 1 Series, but this doesn't appear to be an option. If 'no', what sort of prices are stealers asking around the country? Is there any way of updating the maps on a HDD i-drive sat nav apart from a trip to the stealer?
